The Siamese, a very elegant cat

The Siamese is certainly the most beautiful cat, with its slender body and blue eyes. In addition to being elegant, he is calm but at the same time very curious. Would you like to know more about this breed? Then read on.

The Siamese cat, traditional and modern

There are two varieties of this breed: the first is known as “traditional” or “Thai”, and it is the original one. To know its history we must take a trip to the ancient world of Siam, which later became Thailand, where it was the exclusive pet of the king and the royal family, as it was thought to have a pure character due to its white color, considered sacred in this country.

Here it is called Wichien-Maat, and is thought to have originated in the 14th century. Being considered a sacred cat,  when a person of high rank died, he was placed next to his body, so that he could receive its spirit. It was also believed that this animal was the guardian of the deceased, and that it lived in a temple or monastery, surrounded by unimaginable luxury.

The rounded shape of the body and muzzle, the small mouth, the elongated and light blue eyes and the short and rounded tail at the tip are just some of the characteristics of the traditional Siamese.

The modern variety instead developed around 1890.  A decade earlier the Siamese were brought to England and the United States, coming into contact with other cat breeds. It is a slender animal, with a small muzzle and almond-shaped eyes, with a delicate and long neck, and with a light coat and dark ears, muzzle, legs and tail.

Personality of the Siamese cat

An ancient legend states that the Siamese cat is the fruit of love between a monkey and a lioness. From this impossible union, puppies were born that possess the characteristics of both animals. This story is perfect for understanding the character of this feline: as brave as a lion and as agile as a monkey.

Like most felines, the Siamese is also independent. Although they are loyal to their master, they will never completely submit.

It is a fairly affectionate cat, which creates a strong bond with its family. He can get to be very sociable and above all curious. The latter is its best quality. Although it is a common feature in felines, in the Siamese it appears even more developed. He will continually scour his whereabouts for new items, or go in search of items that might catch his attention.

It is also very agile thanks to its very muscular physical structure. The hyperactivity and energy of the Siamese are similar to those of other Asian cats. He could spend hours running and jumping all over the house. He is very playful.

In addition, he  is sociable, intelligent and lively. These are sensitive and sweet cats, which purr very easily, and usually choose only one person as their absolute master. You will realize this as it will give him more attention and pampering.

Necessary care and health of Siamese cats

If you are thinking of adopting a Siamese cat, you must remember that you can only bring it home after it is three months old. Before this age, he will not have socialized and learned everything his mother can teach him. After this time, he may not adapt to his new home.

Males are large and impetuous, females more silent and docile. You must know that it is a very prolific breed during the heat, its meows are unbearable. Some owners decide to sterilize them immediately after the first pregnancy.

Among the positive aspects of this breed, which can suffer from squint, it is worth mentioning the short coat, which does not require much care and attention, and which is clean by nature.
