I Didn’t Want A Pet Until You Showed Up

My life was very busy… or so I thought. Despite my loneliness, I had never thought about getting a pet. Many recommended it to me, others had even tried to give me one, but in the end I never decided to do it. Thinking I didn’t have time to take care of it or the work it would require didn’t allow me to take this step… and then you showed up.  

Selfish? Yes, I don’t deny it. But can one be generous towards what one does not know? But one day, one day you appeared. So, everything has changed … 

When I met you

It all started an ordinary day, like so many others. I got up and was ready to go to work, running, yes, I’m always running. However, when I got to the parking lot to get my car, I stumbled upon something. It was a little box that spoke. I say she spoke because I heard a faint sound when, without wanting to, I bumped her.

I wanted to know who made that sound, and there you were. I did not even understand what animal you were, since your thick, bright white fur covered your face and the shapes of your body. However, it didn’t take you long to move to see who dared to open the box or, perhaps, because you thought they were finally about to free you.

I’ll be honest with you, I never told you, but I immediately fell in love with your eyes. I didn’t hesitate a second to take you home. While we were in the elevator I couldn’t stop wondering what kind of person could have left such a helpless little creature without water or food, abandoned to its fate.

I am increasingly convinced that fate has united us …

You appeared and coexistence began

That day I wished I didn’t have to go to work, I couldn’t take my eyes off you, but I had to go. I left you at home and I couldn’t think of anything else. I thought I had to go buy you something after work, but I wanted to see you so badly, I decided we would go together and, that way, I could find you a good vet and get you vaccinated.

Were you listening to me? Yes, I never wanted a dog … until you showed up.

I remember the first day you were in the house. I do not deny that you have not started in the best way to be my new roommate. You peed all over and gnawed on my slippers and the neighbors were complaining about your tears. Although I was a very perfectionist, all of this made me laugh instead of angry.

Living together was not easy, I can’t deny it, but little by little I learned to be more transigent and less rigid and you learned what your place was and what rules to respect.

Seeing you grow up, having someone to “talk” with when you get home, someone to play with, someone to hang out with. You changed my life. You appeared and my world changed. In fact, I could no longer imagine my existence without you. My friends couldn’t believe I had a dog when they came home.

And you and I laughed at their faces in seeing you, their expressions in seeing that you were reality.

Thanks for having changed my life

Even today I get exasperated when people believe that animals have nothing to teach us. If they knew how much you changed my life! If only I could pass it on!

Today I am a different person, because you have taught me a lot.  Since you appeared, I have learned to share, to be generous, not to think only of myself, to love and be loved, to take responsibility and much more.

For this reason and for all the happiness you have given me, today I want to thank you. Because since you appeared, my life, my home and myself are different.
