All About Singapura

All about Singapura

Quick and small in size, the singapura  sums up all the elegance and lightness of cats. The origins of this breed are uncertain and the only information we have is that it is an ancient breed. In 1974 it was recognized as such.

It is known that he comes from Singapore, where it is still common to see them wandering the streets today. Regardless of their origin, these cats gained great popularity in the United States, where demand for these cats has grown exponentially, especially for shows.

During the eighties a process of introduction of the breed in Europe began. In France and in Great Britain this breed was welcomed with love, however it never enjoyed the success it had in the United States and it is still not common today to find it on the European continent.

Characteristics of the Singapura cat

  • The characteristic of this breed that most catches the eye is the round head, with a short muzzle and in general the small size of the animal.
  • The almond shape of its eyes, outlined by a black line, is another of the peculiarities of this breed. The eyes are also larger than in other felines. The most common colors of their eyes are green, copper or gold. If the cat has blue eyes it is considered a mistake, even if of course they continue to be beautiful animals.
  • The muzzle is surmounted by two large and pointed ears, which give the cat an intelligent and attentive look.
  • Through the short hair you can see its strong musculature: despite being a small cat, it is endowed with a decidedly athletic musculature and physique. The body ends with a long, thin tail.
  • The coat of these cats is very beautiful, short and fine. Shades include sepia, ivory and brown. If the cat is in good condition, the coat is very shiny. In the nose area, the hue changes to salmon, which gives the cat a sweet and pleasant appearance.

The temperament

This cat is moderately active and, while needing to exercise regularly, is not as hyperactive as other breeds.  It is, in general, a very affectionate cat. He will have moments of intense activity, but will remain relatively quiet for most of the day.

They are very independent cats, therefore they will not suffer the stress of abandonment during the absence of the owner. However, it is best not to leave them alone for too long, as they greatly appreciate people’s caresses and attentions. Care should be taken with smaller animals, such as birds and rodents, as this cat is a skilled hunter.

If you let him out of the house make sure he has been subjected to all vaccines. He is a great adventurer, he likes to run outdoors and for this he could get lost.

Health and special attention

One of the advantages of caring for a short-haired cat is that it requires far less attention than its long-haired counterpart. You only need to comb it once a week. Remember to get used to weekly grooming as if you don’t take care of it, it may start to ingest hairballs and damage its digestive system.

He must receive a diet rich in animal fats, which allows him to develop the muscles he needs to keep himself in good health. Remember that, in any case, you should not give them too much food, as cats are easily exposed to obesity. The best thing to do is to help him by playing with him a lot, every day.

Exercise is very important to ensure that you lead a good, long and happy life. These cats have an extended childhood, so you will be able to enjoy an animal with the personality of a puppy for a couple of years.

It is a good idea to take him to the vet at least once every six months, even when he is healthy, especially to have his teeth, bones and general development checked. If you notice any warning signs, such as dermatitis, constant sneezing or diarrhea, you should go to the vet immediately.

If you follow these simple steps, your singapura will enjoy a good life and you can have fun and enjoy the company of this fantastic feline.
