The Boxer: Discover The Myths To Dispel About This Breed

The boxer: discover the myths to dispel about this breed

Boxers were used throughout the German feudal era as  guard dogs. They watched over castles and fiefdoms, attacked bears, wild boars and sometimes even people. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, these animals began to be  used as fighting dogs.  Due to this inglorious past, the belief that boxers are aggressive dogs has taken root. This however is nothing more than one of the many myths that hover about this breed. Today we present, and debunk, some of these falsehoods about boxers.

The boxer is aggressive

The boxer is one of the most docile and loyal dogs. This breed combines tranquility, placidity and balance. In addition, she is endowed with unquestionable loyalty and  blind trust in her master, and no one can put a word on this. They are tremendously protective. Towards their family, the boxer is harmless,  tolerant of children and very playful. However, with strangers, on the contrary, he is suspicious and always on the alert. In case of danger he will not think twice:  he will immediately place himself in defense of his master or his group with all his strength. And this is very different from being aggressive by nature: in fact it does not attack unless provoked.

The name derives from the fact that it is a fighting dog

Many people believe that the name “boxer” comes from the habit of standing on the hind legs and throwing “punches” with the front ones. This of course is a myth, because these dogs use their front legs to play, to flip the bowl, and to ask for some food when hungry.

White boxers are very rare

This is an uncertain figure. 25% of boxers are born white and in fact some dogs that gave rise to the breed were of this color. However, since the American boxer standard does not provide for the white color, breeders often  kill them shortly after birth.

White boxers are more prone to developing health problems than others

There is no clinical evidence confirming that the white boxer develops more health problems than other boxers, nor that they are weaker.

All white boxers are deaf and cannot be trained

Although white boxer deafness is more common, not all of them are. Deaf boxers,  white or otherwise, can be trained with a variety of methods, among many: sign language and flashlights. Training any type of boxer, deaf or not, takes time and patience.

White boxers are evil

It goes without saying that a dog’s coat color does not affect their personality. White boxers possess the same personality as their darker kin.

White boxers are albinos

White boxers are NOT albinos, albinos do not have any type of pigmentation, resulting in totally white and red eyes. White Boxers are simply dogs that are born with white fur.
