The Wisdom Of A Street Dog

The wisdom of a street dog

Depending on the country or city where you live, it is possible to see more or less animals (especially dogs) abandoned or stray. In some places it is even a very serious problem that cannot be eradicated despite sterilization campaigns or new kennels being opened. Many of us would like to take them all home, but it’s impossible. If you have the opportunity to adopt at least one street dog, you will discover eternal loyalty and gratitude.

The statue of the street dog

In order to raise awareness among the people of Mexico City, an artist named Girasol Botello created a statue in honor of a dog, “Peluso”. The idea is very interesting, which is to show passersby that animals cannot pass unnoticed by humans.

The statue features a plaque with a heartbreaking phrase, but which will hopefully have an effect on the population:

The Mexico City statue is one of several that have been erected far and wide across the planet. For example, in the city of Moscow, more exactly at the entrance to the subway, a statue was placed with the aim of reminding everyone of the existence of homeless dogs.

The dog used as “muse” lived in the station and was nicknamed “Child”. Everyone who traveled by subway knew him. He was killed by a woman who was walking with her pet and who, hearing the stray dog bark, feared that she would attack him.

The harsh reality of stray dogs

Dogs that live on the street sleep where they can, eat what they get, dying in a square, suffer from cold in winter and heat in summer, are mistreated by heartless people, fight each other over a piece of meat and give birth. anywhere.

A stray dog already suffers before it is born and when it no longer depends on its mother, it must survive in any way, begging for a piece of bread, a caress or a sweet word. Neutering and animal health programs or campaigns are not enough in some cities, and canine population growth is a problem.

Adoption is one of the solutions, but even it presents an “obstacle”. We can’t take all the dogs home! What do we do with others? Unfortunately, they spend their whole life in a kennel or shelter where, although they are sheltered from rain or cold, they can spend days or weeks in a small cell to share with many others of their kind.

What can a stray dog teach us?

If you are thinking of adopting an animal that lives on the street or that has been taken to a kennel, you must take into account that, from the moment you show him his new home, the dog will be so grateful that he will have no problem giving his life for you. It is one of the “maxims” of a stray: 100% loyalty to those who save me. Would you like to know the others?

  1. Life is beautiful when we share it with someone.
  2. Opportunities are meant to be exploited.
  3. The nap (and rest) is very important.
  4. Time with the family is worthless.
  5. Being patient is a virtue that very few know.
  6. Love is always unconditional.
  7. Help others and you will be helping yourself.
  8. Improvise and try to have fun with what you have available.
  9. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to ask for help.
  10. Address your problems as soon as possible.

What do you think of this decalogue of a stray dog? No doubt these animals teach us a lot and it is worth learning from their wisdom and experience… as we fill them with love!
